The Nokia 8.1 has just been announced by HMD Global, the caretakers of the Nokia brand at an event in Dubai. The Nokia 8.1 brings a few key upgrades while retaining a similar price point. The Nokia 8.1 is the global variant of the Nokia X7 that was launched in China in October, and the spiritual successor to the Nokia 7 Plus.

The Nokia 8.1 comes packed with a 6.18-inch full-HD+ (1080×2244 pixels) display with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. The display HDR10 support, 96% color gamut, 1:1500 contrast ratio and 500 nits peak brightness. Under the hood, you get the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC along with 4GB of LPDDR4x RAM.
As for storage, there is 64GB of internal storage which is also expandable via microSD card ( up to 256GB). The phone comes packed with a 3,500mAh battery, which supports fast charging and which the company claims can last up to two days between charges.The Nokia 8.1 features a two-tone design and is built out of 6000-Series aluminum that has diamond cut edges.
The Nokia 8.1 is the first Nokia phone to run the latest version of Android out of the box (Android 9 Pie). Also the phone is part of the Android One program, so you will be getting the latest android updates on time.
When it comes to the camera department, the Nokia 8.1 bears a dual rear camera setup with Zeiss optics. There’s a 12MP primary sensor alongside a 13MP depth sensor. There is Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) as well. Up front, there is a 20MP shooter for selfies. The camera flaunts AI capabilities along with a “Dual-Sight” mode which allows the user to live stream videos on social media by using the front and rear camera simultaneously.
The Nokia 8.1 will retail for around €399 (Ksh 47,000), and the device will make its way to India and other global markets in the coming weeks. It will be available in Blue/ Silver, Steel/ Copper, and Iron/ Steel dual-tone color variants.
