Camon Series by Tecno is a mid-tier category of Tecno smartphones that targets the mass market and the vast majority of Tecno fans. It is by far the most popular of all series by the Chinese based mobile phone manufacture. In 2020, February 25 the manufacturer released two new smartphones in Tecno Camon 15 and Tecno Camon 15 Pro. The former which this article is for. Read through to find out more about it.
One of the superb features of the Camon 15 is with its Rear Camera. I agree with a tech reviewer who says for the Pro version, “It is a Serious Camera phone With its 48MP Sony Camera.” The base model also has this 48 MP AI QUAD and a whopping 16 MP AI Selfie Camera. If there is anything Camon series has been popular for, it surely has been the cameras all along. And the trend does not merely continue here, it explodes. Even the look of the camera module alone shows you Tecno means business this time around.
Now a Quad-LED flash with the primary camera. Not quite certain if it is responsible for the beautiful night photography on board. And there seems to be a pattern these days with smartphones pulling up socks (if any) with night photography. On Tecno Camon 15 the camera responsible is so called the Ultra Night Lens. Video recording is 1080p@30fps with both the 48MP main and 16MP selfie camera. I also love to see panorama, HDR and the three other lenses for depth sensing/ultra wide photography and depth sensing. Serious camera performance going on here.
The internal storage of Tecno Camon 15 is 64GB (eMMC 5.1) and it runs on 4GB RAM. I wouldn’t at any rate consider 64GB little storage capacity keeping in mind there is support for micro SD slot. You can still achieve quite a lot with 64GB. Tecno Camon 15 is powered by Android 10.0; HIOS 6.0. As if Android 10.0 were not enough, Tecno also included their new HIOS 6.0 theme which I must admit is easier to like compared to previous versions. It is great to see the latest version of OS installed here. Read more about Android 10 (here) to find out why we are excited about it.
One more Tecno Camon 15 has one serious looking camera module. From the looks of it you would straight away assume it must be a great camera smartphone. And PS – it is! But that aside we still get a plastic back and plastic frame phone here because of the production cost I guess? To have a glass build on a phone with these specifications would most definitely have an appreciating effect on its price. As at now, the price of Tecno Camon 15 in Kenya is around 15,000 shillings. Fair price for a fair phone don’t you think?
The color options of Camon 15 are Shoal Gold, Fascinating Purple and Jade. You are also getting a smartphone with an in-display cut out where the selfie camera lies or sits or whichever word that fits. Speaking of displays the Camon 15’s is an IPS LCD 6.55 inches capacitive touchscreen. There really isn’t so much to talk about when it comes to this panel if I must be honest. I think this was also one of the areas sacrificed to maintain that low price point. It is fine display at most with 720 x 1600 pixels resolution, a 20:9 aspect ratio and a rather unconvincing ~268 ppi density.
Alright whatever it is Tecno mean by Safe-Charge I do not know. Camon 15 comes with a non-removable Li-Po 5000 mAh battery with safe charge feature. But here we only talk about what we know so we can testify that the 5000 mAh battery is one heck of a battery capacity. It lasts, and lasts and lasts. Strange though why the Pro version comes with 4000 mAh battery.
Pros of Tecno Camon 15: Android 10.0, 5000 mAh battery, HIOS 6.0, Ultra Night Lens and 48 MP AI QUAD camera. Cons of Camon 15: micro USB 2.0 and 720 x 1600 pixels display.
